Steve Valk is Senior Advisor for Communications at Citizens’ Climate International, responsible for internal (newsletter) and external (press releases and journalist engagement) communications. Steve also trains and supports CCI volunteers to publish letters to the editor and op-eds in their local newspapers and places op-eds from CCI’s executive director.
Before coming on board with CCI in 2023, Steve was part of the communications team of Citizens’ Climate Lobby from 2009 until 2023, serving as CCL’s Senior Director of Communications until 2019. In CCL’s early years, Steve also launched and trained CCL chapters in the United States. The training he led was based on his 25 years of experience as a volunteer leader in RESULTS, an advocacy organization working to end hunger and poverty by empowering citizens to effectively engage with their government.
Prior to working with Citizens’ Climate Lobby, Steve worked for 30 years on the news desk of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, designing news pages, editing copy and writing headlines. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina. Steve lives in Atlanta with his wife, Sara, and enjoys singing in his church’s choir and playing music with friends and neighbors.
