Cathy Orlando works as the Program Director at Citizens’ Climate International where with an exceptional team she directs programs that support volunteers in over 75 countries to build political will for a climate safe future.
She has been lobbying the Canadian Parliament since 2010, and US Congress, the World Bank and IMF since 2011. She has been an observer at the IPCC, G7, G20 and UNFCCC COPs since 2017. Cathy has been a board member at We Don’t Have Time since 2018 and most recently joined the board at the Climate Protection and Restoration Initiatve. In 2022, she is a W7 delegate at the G7 in Berlin, Germany.
Cathy has led countless climate advocate training sessions, and has directed 18 Citizens’ Climate Lobby Canada conference and lobbying days between 2012 and 2021. All these lobbying efforts were focused on enacting a carbon fee and dividend policy for Canada – which is now the backstop carbon pricing policy in Canada known as the Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act of 2018 – and thereafter protecting and improving it.
Cathy is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), the Desjardins Citizens Engagement Award (2017) from Climate Reality Canada, and the Senate of Canada’s 150th Anniversary Unsung Heroes Medal (2018).
Cathy lives in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, a mining town, with her husband Sanjiv Mathur and their youngest daughter Sophia Mathur.
